Stockerau will be the first location for a new diabetes centre in Lower Austria, ORF reports. The centre is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027, with further centres planned in Mödling and Melk by 2030.
The centres will serve patients with complex medical histories. Lower Austria’s health agency will establish and operate all three as part of the “Health Plan 2040+”.
“With the new centre in Stockerau, we are bringing treatment and advice together at one point of contact,” said Martin Antauer, a state councillor and chair of the Lower Austria Health and Social Fund (NÖGUS). The team is expected to include specialist doctors, nurses trained in diabetes advice, dietitians and psychologists.
NÖGUS plans to invest up to €1.5 million in the Stockerau centre. Its projected annual operating costs of €2.77 million will be shared equally by NÖGUS and social insurance. State councillor Anton Kasser said Stockerau already had extensive experience in diabetes care, which the centre would build on.
