The Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) plans to deepen its cooperation with South Tyrol, ORF reported, as officials discussed shared challenges in health research in Bolzano on Wednesday.
Salzburg Governor Karoline Edtstadler visited the biomedical laboratory at NOI Techpark, a medical partner of the state of Salzburg. She said the PMU had concrete ideas for working with the laboratory on joint research.
South Tyrol will fund up to 17 places at the PMU in Salzburg each year for the next two academic years. Seven South Tyrolean hospitals are also teaching hospitals for the university.
South Tyrolean Governor Arno Kompatscher said the partnership had been successful for many years and that the Institute of Biomedicine was a flagship institution. He said it supported teaching and research and helped make the region attractive.
PMU Rector Annemarie Weißenbacher said discussions were under way on expanding existing scientific collaborations and establishing new ones. The partners have not yet specified what research projects might result.
