Authorities removed 12 emaciated horses from a farm in the Klagenfurt-Land district on Wednesday because the owner was subject to an active ban on keeping animals, Jutta Wagner, Carinthia’s animal welfare ombudswoman, told ORF.
Goats were also found with overgrown hooves, which Wagner said caused severe pain. The goats were walking on their front feet because of pain in their legs, she said, adding that excessively long hooves are a common sign of neglect. Wagner said the case again highlighted a shortage of official veterinarians responsible for inspecting farms.
