Sales of detached houses increased significantly across Austria in the first half of 2026, with Styria recording 1,302 transactions, 343 more than a year earlier, ORF Steiermark reported.

A nationwide analysis by real estate company Remax found that about 6,400 detached houses changed hands in the first six months of the year, more than 25 percent above the same period in 2025 and about two-thirds higher than in 2024. The total value of the sales reached a record 2.57 billion euros.

The average purchase price was about 350,000 euros, up 3.7 percent year on year. Prices rose in seven of Austria’s nine federal states, while average prices fell in Vienna and Carinthia. The national increase was slightly higher than the general inflation rate.

Styria was among the states with the largest increases in sales. Lower Austria recorded the most transactions, with 1,988, followed by Styria and Upper Austria, with 1,122. Sales rose in all nine states; eight posted double-digit increases, and five reached a new record for the number of transactions.

Housing construction in Styria remained comparatively weak. The Institute for Real Estate, Construction and Housing said 2.6 homes per 1,000 residents were approved in the state in 2025, well below the national average. Building permits fell to a new low across Austria, while housing subsidies rose to 2.68 billion euros, 7 percent more than the previous year. Renovation is gaining importance, the report said.
