Salzburg will increase the number of places in women’s shelters and protected apartments from 44 to 57, ORF reported. The additional accommodation is expected to be available from mid-2027.

Following a new tender, the three current providers will continue to run the facilities: Frauenhaus Pinzgau, the ARGE Schutzunterkünfte and Laube GmbH. The organisations have revised their plans to improve support for women, Salzburg’s responsible state councillor, Daniela Gutschi of the Austrian People’s Party, said.

Nine of the new places will be added directly at the women’s shelter in the city of Salzburg, where demand for additional accommodation is greatest. Further protected apartments will be created elsewhere in the state.
