Unknown vandals drove repeatedly across the football pitch in Köttmannsdorf with single-track and multi-track vehicles, leaving numerous tyre marks, including a recognisable swastika shape, ORF reported. The incident is believed to have happened overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

Police have opened an investigation, and the cost of the damage was expected to be established by Tuesday afternoon. The perpetrators also left circular tracks. Köttmannsdorf Mayor Josef Liendl, of the Austrian People’s Party, called the damage deliberate destruction and said 140 children and young people use the sports facility. The pitch is expected to be playable again by the weekend, in time for the championship final. Police are asking witnesses to report anything suspicious.
