A seven-year-old boy was injured in a traffic accident in Andelsbuch on Monday after a horse trailer ran over him, ORF reported. He was given first aid at the scene and flown to Feldkirch Hospital.
Police said the accident happened at about 3.30pm. A 72-year-old driver was towing the trailer behind a car from a parking area on a meadow used for a festival onto a cycle path, which was also open to motor traffic during the event.
Several children were playing on a meadow beside the path. The driver was travelling very slowly as he passed them, but the boy suddenly stepped backwards. With his back to the trailer, he apparently did not see it. A strut on the trailer struck him, causing him to fall, and the trailer then ran over him.
The boy suffered injuries of unspecified severity. Emergency responders treated him at the scene before he was flown by the Christophorus 8 emergency helicopter to Feldkirch Hospital. A breathalyser test found no alcohol impairment in the driver.
