A hot-air balloon that flew unusually low over western Graz on the national holiday landed safely in the Reininghaus district, ORF reported.
Videos shared on social media showed the balloon descending over rooftops and housing estates, leading some observers to suspect an emergency landing. Police said the flight over Graz had been registered and that a second balloon was also in the air at the time.
Wind conditions may have forced the crew to fly much lower than usual. It is not known whether thermals or another factor led the pilot to land in the city. The Styrian State Police Directorate said a report for an administrative offence would follow because the residential district has no official landing site.
No emergency services or firefighters were needed. The balloon landed safely, with no injuries or property damage.
