Team Löwenmut is expanding its anti-bullying work for children and teenagers, ORF reports. Founded by Sabrina Deutschmann four years ago, the initiative aims to strengthen young people, encourage their individuality and build their confidence.
About 100 trainers now deliver workshops, mainly in schools. The programme is also offered in Germany and Luxembourg. The team introduced itself for an ORF programme at Waldseilgarten Geier, a forest high ropes course in Sebersdorf.
Deutschmann, who says she was bullied at school and that her son also experienced bullying, said the initiative initially faced many rejections because the subject is difficult to address. She said smartphones mean bullying can follow children in their pockets, making it important to protect and educate them earlier and teach media skills.
The team holds an annual family event to celebrate its community. A stuffed lion called Lio has accompanied the training sessions for years. Lio was also teased and excluded because he has a colourful paw. Trainer Sandra Maierhofer said the exchange among trainers helps them face challenges without feeling alone.
Deutschmann wants the team to continue growing and said she has further plans for its future.
