Elixhausen opened its new community centre on Saturday, bringing most municipal services together in one building. The wooden structure cost nearly 3.7 million euros, ORF reported.

The Municipal Equalisation Fund contributed about 1.5 million euros. The building includes an accessible citizen service centre and a rehearsal room for local associations. The surrounding grounds were redesigned and planted with greenery, and an underground car park was built. The project was completed to the klimaaktiv standard.

Mayor Michael Prantner said the new centre brings almost all municipal buildings together in an accessible location between the municipality’s larger districts. He said the space had been used efficiently to limit land consumption, and that plans allowed for expansion if the growing municipality needed more room. Prantner said the municipality had managed much of the work itself, working with a construction manager and planner but choosing not to hire an architect.

Salzburg Governor Karoline Edtstadler, who attended the opening in her home municipality, said the centre reflected responsible financial management and forward planning.
