Trains are still making loud squealing noises near Großgmain in Salzburg’s Flachgau region after track repairs, ORF reports. The Deutsche Bahn had promised to reduce the noise, but residents say they have yet to notice an improvement.

Trains run twice an hour between Bayerisch Gmain and Berchtesgaden over the repaired tracks. Residents say they can hear them well before they come into view, and that the noise echoes noticeably.

Complaints have also come from nearby Bavaria. Großgmain Mayor Martin Panzer said he and his Bavarian counterpart contacted Deutsche Bahn. The company said the noise was to be expected at first with the new tracks and commissioned rail lubrication to reduce it.

Some lubrication has already taken place, but its effects will not be immediate, Panzer said. Several applications may be needed, with improvement taking weeks or months.

Further noise measurements are planned in the coming weeks. If they do not show a reduction, Deutsche Bahn has said it will bring in experts to find a solution.
