Villa Beer in Vienna’s Hietzing district has won one of six 2026 building owners’ awards, ORF reported. The house, designed by Josef Frank and Oskar Wlach, reopened to the public as a museum in March after an extensive renovation.

The award is presented by the Central Association of Austrian Architects. This year, 132 projects were submitted, and 23 were shortlisted for the final round.

The jury praised the villa’s careful restoration, saying the project took a considered approach to the existing building rather than seeking a quick solution. Planning decisions were reviewed by an expert advisory board and based on a range of sources and material findings.

The other award-winning projects were a nursery in Gabersdorf, Styria; the reconstruction of a former Jesuit refectory by the University of Graz; a climate-adapted redesign of a square in Innsbruck’s Olympic Village; an extension to the Kulturbackstube in Innsbruck; and a workshop and office building for Lehm Ton Erde Baukunst in Schlins, Vorarlberg.
