Helmut Bieler was unanimously re-elected president of the Pensioners’ Association of Burgenland on Wednesday, ORF reports. The vote took place at the association’s 28th ordinary state conference in Neudörfl.
Bieler, a former state councillor, was confirmed by the delegates present. “We will continue to speak up loudly for our members’ interests, regardless of who is in government,” he said.
Birgit Gerstofer, president of the national Pensioners’ Association, also attended. She said cooperation with the Burgenland association was marked by “great solidarity” and called for a bonus-malus system for businesses, saying employers should act before there is discussion of raising the retirement age.
The Burgenland association says it has almost 25,000 members and more than 2,000 functionaries.
