Edelschrott can no longer meet local demand for drinking water from its own sources because of prolonged drought and increased consumption, ORF reports. The municipality in western Styria is arranging water deliveries, and residents must boil the water for three minutes before drinking it because transport could lead to contamination.
The municipality has urged residents to use water sparingly. It has not yet said how long the measures will remain necessary.
Water deliveries to municipalities in Styria have been needed several times this year. At the height of the summer heat, communities received five to 10 deliveries a day, ORF reported.
Residents in Schöder and Pölstal are also being told to boil drinking water because of contamination. In Schöder, new samples taken two days ago are being analysed, with results expected Thursday.
