Highway police in Villach stopped a lorry from Romania after inspectors found 24 serious defects, ORF reports.
The articulated lorry was checked shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Arnoldstein vehicle inspection checkpoint. An expert from ASFINAG, Austria’s motorway operator, found the defects. Twelve were on the semi-trailer and were considered an immediate danger.
The problems included a missing wheel brake cylinder, kinked brake hoses and three wheels with no braking effect from either the service or parking brake.
The vehicle’s registration was provisionally suspended, and its registration certificate and number plates were taken. The driver had to pay several thousand euros as security and will be reported to the Villach district authority.
