Styria’s police have warned residents about burglary gangs that operate during the day and may pose as joggers, athletes or people out for a walk. ORF reported that the groups often use rental cars with Italian or German licence plates.
The gangs usually consist of two to four people, according to police. Investigators say they are becoming more professional and are mainly from South America.
Police said they had apprehended several internationally operating gangs in recent months in what they described as a significant blow against organised crime. They are now asking the public to stay alert and report suspicious activity immediately by calling 133.
Details that may help include a vehicle’s registration number, make and colour, as well as descriptions of people seen nearby. Police also recommend looking out for neighbours and locking doors and windows, even when leaving home for only a short time.
