Two serious fires kept firefighters busy in Bavaria on Monday, with a car burning in an underground garage in Munich and a battery storage unit catching fire in Obernzell, in Passau district, BR reported.

The Munich fire broke out in a private underground garage in the Moosach district on Monday evening. The car was already fully ablaze when firefighters arrived, and the garage was heavily filled with smoke.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze. The car was destroyed and other vehicles were partly damaged, but the fire did not spread to the building. The garage ceiling still needs to be checked for damage, and the total loss has not been established. No injuries have been reported.

Police are investigating whether the fire was started deliberately. Witnesses said several people left the area around the garage shortly after the blaze began, but it is unclear whether they were connected to the fire. A search, including support from a police helicopter, initially found no one. The criminal police have taken over the investigation.

In Obernzell, a new battery storage unit for a car dealership’s photovoltaic systems caught fire, producing heavy smoke. Residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed.

Firefighters faced difficult conditions because the storage unit repeatedly reignited. They eventually moved the burning unit into a metal container and flooded it. The warning to residents was lifted late in the evening. Police estimate the damage at about 10,000 euros, and the cause remains unknown.
