About 20 libraries across Burgenland are taking part in Austria Reads, a nationwide reading campaign, with events highlighting their role as places to meet and connect, ORF reported.

The programme begins on Monday under the theme “Meeting point: Library.” Events range from author readings and dialect performances to cabaret and activities for the whole family. The campaign has been running for 20 years.

The municipal library in Jennersdorf will offer stories for young children and a quiz evening. The Chamber of Labour library in Eisenstadt will host traditional readings, including one with author Jutta Treiber.

Michael Hess will perform his humorous dialect texts at the municipal library in Mattersburg and the community library in Königsdorf.

The Burgenland Libraries Association said the campaign aims to encourage reading and draw attention to libraries’ social importance as places where people can meet and exchange ideas.
