Investigators continue probing Ruster Bucht fire

Monday 19th October 2026 on 12:30 in Austria

Burgenland, fire, Ruster Bucht

The cause of a major fire at Ruster Bucht, a bay, remains unclear five days after around 200 boat garages and electric boats were destroyed, ORF reported.

Police said investigations were continuing but could not say how long they would take. The fire broke out during the night into Thursday last week.

Cleanup work cannot begin while investigators are still at the scene. An oil barrier was put in place to protect the lake water from contamination and will remain there during the investigation.

State experts have taken water samples for analysis. The results were still pending on Monday. Around 300 emergency workers were involved in tackling the fire for several hours. The damage has not yet been estimated.
