Sunday 18th October 2026 on 17:30 in Austria

Kitzbühel, Tirol, traffic accident

Four people were injured, some seriously, when two cars collided head-on on the B170 road in Kitzbühel on Sunday, ORF reported. The crash happened west of the Lebenberg Tunnel.

Emergency services were alerted at 3.19pm. One person was flown by helicopter to Kufstein Hospital and another was taken by ambulance to St Johann Hospital. Both were treated in a trauma room. A third person, who suffered moderate injuries, was also flown to Kufstein. The severity of the fourth person’s injuries was initially unclear.

Two emergency medical helicopters, three ambulances, 24 members of the Kitzbühel fire brigade with five vehicles, and two police patrols responded.

After the operation, fire brigade commander Andreas Reisch criticised the large number of onlookers, saying they had seriously hampered emergency crews. He said the incident commander initially lost track of the situation and warned that spectators put both injured people and responders at risk. Reisch urged people to stay well away from accident scenes and said those wishing to help could volunteer with the fire brigade.
