Earth buries worker in fatal construction accident in Gnas

A 28-year-old worker died after being buried by earth at a construction site in Gnas, in the Southeast Styria district, ORF reported.
The man was carrying out auxiliary work on Saturday morning. At about 10.30 a.m., the earth apparently shifted and buried him, according to the Styrian State Police Directorate.
Volunteer firefighters from Poppendorf carried out the recovery operation, but emergency responders could only retrieve the man’s body. The public prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing.
