Unknown perpetrators felled a tree with a chainsaw and blocked the Gütlestraße in Dornbirn on Saturday evening, ORF reports. Police said the 10- to 12-metre-long tree posed a serious danger to drivers.
The tree was felled near a timber storage area between 22:45 and 23:13 and fell onto the road without being secured. The street is unlit, and the trunk lay on the wet road just beyond a sharp bend, making it difficult to see in time.
Dornbirn city police secured the scene and closed the road in both directions. Firefighters cut up the tree and removed it.
A second tree fell onto a road in the Wieden area that evening. It came from private property and damaged a car’s rear window and an electricity cabinet. Firefighters cut it up, and the city forestry service is due to remove the remaining trunk in the coming days.
