Two Interregio trains will stop at Graz Airport from December, but they will use the old Southern Railway rather than the Koralmbahn, ORF reports. No stops on the Koralmbahn itself are currently planned.

Under the new timetable, which takes effect on December 13, train 1151 will arrive at Graz Airport-Feldkirchen at 5:15 a.m., while train 1150 will arrive at 11:32 p.m. Both services are being moved from the Koralmbahn to the Southern Railway.

Most passengers currently reach the airport by car or taxi, airport spokeswoman Doris Pölt said. About 15 percent travel by public transport, a share that has risen in recent years. Pölt also pointed to improved connections from Slovenia, including more than 20 links a day between Maribor and Graz Airport, over 10 of them direct.

Airport managing director Jürgen Löschnig welcomed the new stops but said the timing could be improved. The morning train leaves little time for passengers who need to check in baggage, he said, and the airport has proposed an earlier stop.

Styria’s transport councillor Claudia Holzer and deputy governor Manuela Khom described the new services as a first step and called for future timetables to better meet passengers’ needs. A separate airport station on the new Koralmbahn route had originally been planned but was never built.
