Ronacher will stage Dance of the Vampires in 2027
Austria Vienna’s Ronacher theatre will bring back the musical Dance of the Vampires in a revised production from autumn 2027, ORF reports. The Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW) venue plans to hold the premiere in September.
Artistic director Christian Struppeck said on Wednesday that the cast and creative team would be announced next spring. Tickets are already on sale. The VBW promises a production that is “more mystical, darker and eerier than ever”, saying strong audience demand prompted the revival.
The musical, based on Roman Polanski’s film of the same name, premiered in 1997 at Vienna’s Raimund Theater. According to the VBW, about 11 million people have seen it in 15 countries and 13 languages. The company revived the show in Vienna in 2009 and 2017; the 2027 production will be its fourth version there.
