A cyberattack has forced the closure of Eichstätt’s town hall and the shutdown of most of the city administration’s IT systems, BR reported. Investigators are checking whether any data was taken.

The circumstances of the attack remain unclear. The city said it was working with police and the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office, and that forensic investigators were on the scene until Monday evening.

The town hall and its branch offices are closed until further notice and cannot be reached by email. Appointments have been cancelled. From Tuesday morning, residents can call the administration’s emergency line at 08421 93770 during regular opening hours. Staff will also be available at the town hall entrance to answer questions, including those concerning the registry office.

The city utilities are unaffected. The adult education centre is operating with restrictions, while the tourist information office remains open and fully reachable. The Heilig-Geist-Spital nursing home cannot be reached by email, but its other communication channels are working.

The city has advised residents to be cautious about messages or requests claiming to come from the administration. It urged people to check current bills from the town hall carefully before paying them. The city is providing updates on its website and social media.
