Firefighters rescue cat Mexi from roof after three weeks

Firefighters in Linz rescued Mexi from a roof on the fifth attempt after the cat had been there for more than three weeks, ORF reported. The eight-year-old cat had taken refuge in a chimney in the Urfahr district.

All earlier attempts to bring Mexi down had failed. His owner, Michaela Söser, went up to the roof in a crane basket with Linz’s professional fire brigade. Although rescuers tried to lure him out, the frightened cat crawled farther into the chimney shaft.

Chimney sweeps made noises from below, prompting Mexi to climb into a rescue net. He was hungry and somewhat dehydrated but otherwise healthy. Söser and the rescuers were relieved to have him safely back on the ground.
