UTC Bad Sauerbrunn is withdrawing from Austria’s tennis Bundesliga for financial reasons, while ASKÖ TC Eisenstadt will remain in the top division after two clubs pulled out, ORF Burgenland reported.
Bad Sauerbrunn played in the league for three years and reached the semifinals this summer. Its players included former star Jürgen Melzer and young talent Thilo Beermann. Club representative Patrick Dobesch said the costs no longer made sense given the team’s ambitions. He said the club was proud of its national achievements and of giving young players the chance to showcase their ability.
Eisenstadt’s men had narrowly faced relegation, but will stay in the top division after Bad Sauerbrunn and Vorarlberg club TC Hard withdrew. Club chairman Heinz Mock said the team had already been assembled for the coming season as if it would play in the second division.
The club’s women will also compete in the top division in 2027 after earning promotion this summer. Mock said the league was a financial challenge, but the club was managing with its available resources, in part because many players had come through its own development system.
The Bundesliga is Austria’s leading team tennis competition. The 2027 season begins in May, and clubs must submit their player lists by February. The current champions are TC Bakl Weigelsdorf in the women’s competition and Union Mauthausen in the men’s.
