Pellet prices in Tirol have risen 32% in a year, with six tonnes now costing an average of 2,734.22 euros including delivery, ORF reported, citing a survey by the Tirol Chamber of Labour (AK Tirol).

The average price in early October was 4.8% higher than at the start of September. The survey compared prices from 10 suppliers in Tirol. Six tonnes cost about 2,600 euros on average in early September and around 2,100 euros in October 2025, meaning consumers now pay about 665 euros more than a year ago, the chamber said.

Prices varied among suppliers. The cheapest offer in the survey was 2,642 euros and the most expensive was 2,829 euros, a difference of 187 euros for six tonnes.

The rise in pellet prices far exceeds inflation. Statistics Austria put the preliminary inflation rate for September at 3.6% year on year, making the increase in pellet prices almost nine times as large.

The AK said the cheaper period for buying pellets had ended about two months ago. The average price was around 2,460 euros in early August, and consumers who waited for prices to fall further were disappointed.

The chamber recommends comparing several offers before ordering for winter and checking not only pellet prices but also delivery and any fees for blowing or unloading the pellets.

It also warned consumers about fake online shops that may take advance payment without delivering pellets or firewood. The AK advises caution with offers far below usual market prices, checking the seller and its legal notice, and using Watchlist Internet to check unfamiliar online shops. Consumers should not feel pressured by time-limited deals. The ENplus certificate can also serve as a quality guide, the chamber said.
