A 36-year-old man from the Klagenfurt district lost several thousand euros in an alleged online scam after paying for office supplies that were never delivered, ORF reported.
Police said he received an email in late September from a sender who appeared reputable. It advertised a range of items, some of them high-value, from an alleged insolvency estate. The purported seller was a law firm said to be based in Düsseldorf.
The man ordered several office supplies worth several thousand euros. The transaction was handled entirely by email, police said. After he sent confirmation of the bank transfer, the seller stopped responding. The goods did not arrive.
Police said further investigations are under way.
