The National Special Olympics athletics events were held in Eisenstadt this week, bringing together 160 athletes and creating a distinctive atmosphere, ORF reported.
Three-quarters of the competitors were from Burgenland. In the 1,500-metre race, which had five entrants, Upper Austrian athlete Horst Oberndorfer took first place. He has very limited sight and hearing, but also completes half-marathons in an hour and a half.
A highlight was the 4×100-metre relay, in which people with and without disabilities ran together.
