A tourist from Taiwan fell about 60 metres down a steep slope on Plombergstein, a mountain near St. Gilgen in Salzburg’s Flachgau district, on Wednesday morning, ORF reported. She slipped on leaves just below the summit and stopped shortly before reaching a rock face.

The woman suffered abrasions, said Christian Rauter, head of the St. Gilgen mountain rescue unit and the operation leader. He said she was lucky: another metre of sliding could have sent her over a 20-metre-high cliff.

The tourist contacted her accommodation host by phone and sent photos of her injuries. The host alerted police, who called mountain rescue at 10.40am. Seven rescuers responded, descended about 120 metres and hauled the woman up on a rope using a team pulley system.

She then walked down to the valley with the rescuers and returned to her accommodation.
