Energy Steiermark broke ground on a photovoltaic park in Bachsdorf, in the municipality of Lebring-St. Margarethen, on Wednesday. The facility is expected to generate enough solar power for 7,400 households, ORF reported.
The state energy provider is investing around 12 million euros in the project. The 20-hectare park will have an installed capacity of about 19 megawatts and is expected to produce around 26 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year. Energy Steiermark plans to complete it by summer 2027.
The park will combine solar power generation with crop farming. Its movable photovoltaic panels can track the sun or be adjusted manually, allowing the land to remain in agricultural use while generating electricity, Energy Steiermark executives Martin Graf and Werner Ressi said.
