Fire spreads from construction container to new-build in Kitzbühel
A fire that started in a construction container in Kitzbühel spread to the facade and interior of a new-build semi-detached house on Monday night, ORF reported. Residents of nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution.
Fire crews were called to the Hausstattfeld new-build district shortly after 10 p.m. The flames had engulfed the facade and reached the interior of the building, and threatened to spread to the second half of the semi-detached house. Firefighters said their rapid response prevented that.
Eight teams wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze from inside and outside, using two aerial ladders. Evacuated residents were cared for at the fire station until the danger had passed.
Crews declared the fire out at 2.05 a.m. The Kirchberg fire brigade was released at 2.40 a.m. and Kitzbühel’s firefighters finished their work at about 3 a.m. Cleanup was due to take place in the morning.
The cause of the fire remains unclear and is under investigation by police. The affected buildings were sealed and the area around the scene cordoned off. A total of 80 emergency personnel from the volunteer fire brigades of Kitzbühel, Kirchberg and St. Johann in Tirol, as well as ambulance and police services, attended.
