Tamedia is cutting 34 full-time positions across Switzerland, affecting 41 employees, the media group said, according to SRF. The cuts include 30 positions in journalism and four at the print desk.
Of those affected, 28 work in newsrooms in German-speaking Switzerland and nine in French-speaking Switzerland, where Tamedia publishes titles including 24 Heures, La Tribune de Genève, Bilan and Le Matin dimanche. The company plans to inform everyone affected in individual meetings by the end of October.
The cuts come days after a commitment made in 2024 not to dismiss journalists until the end of September 2026 expired.
Tamedia said the restructuring reflects ongoing changes in the media market, including a sharp decline in advertising and shifts in readers’ habits and expectations. It said it needs to focus its limited resources where they create the most value for paying subscribers.
