The Haydnregion Niederösterreich classical concert series has entered its final phase, with events running through Dec. 13 in 12 municipalities under the theme “Classical without borders”, ORF reports. The programme draws inspiration from Joseph and Michael Haydn and ranges from historic castles to wine taverns.
The series opened on Oct. 4 at Höflein Parish Church with Joseph Haydn’s “Nikolaimesse”, performed to mark the arrival of a new organ. Camerata Carnuntum and Cantus Carnuntum played under conductor Leo Wittner.
On Oct. 11, winemaker Dorli Muhr will discuss change as part of life with entrepreneur Jürgen Sutterlüty from Vorarlberg at the Rohrau Haydn Birthplace. The event, called the “Rohrau Conversation”, will feature music by piano duo Gugg.
Other highlights include a Haydn serenade on Oct. 18 with tenor Kieran Carrel and pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz, and the Austrian Saxophone Project on Oct. 26 at the Klein-Neusiedl paper factory. The Mobilis Saxophone Quartet and 4saxess will perform with cellist Harriet Krijgh.
All events are under the artistic direction of Michael Linsbauer. The programme includes chamber music, symphonic works, solo concertos and sacred works.
The series will also travel to Mannersdorf and, for the first time, to Burgenland. At Kittsee Baroque Palace on Nov. 21, the Barucco ensemble will perform “Harmoniemusik”, with works by Haydn, Beethoven, Paul Anton Wranitzky and Paul Resch.
The season will close on Dec. 13 with a chamber music concert at Rohrau Castle. Violinist Rémy Ballot and pianist Eloïse Bella Kohn will join other soloists for works including pieces by Joseph and Michael Haydn and Franz Schubert.
