The Eisenstadt Dragonz beat the Oberwart Gunners 93-87 in the first Burgenland derby of the Basketball Superliga season, ORF reported. The win ended a run of nine consecutive derby defeats and made Eisenstadt the region’s top team for the first time since January 2024.

The closely contested game remained undecided until the final three minutes. Oberwart then made several poor shot choices, while Eisenstadt converted its chances to secure the win.

Eisenstadt coach Edgar Nubiola said his team had been without two key players, Austen Awosika and Lukas Hahn, but had shown strong commitment. He noted that the head-to-head record was now 1-0 to Eisenstadt after previously standing at 0-9.

Andrew Orr led the Dragonz with a double-double, including 12 rebounds. Rashun Williams scored 28 points and Sead Hadzifjezovic added 27. Eisenstadt point guard Jakob Szkutta said the team wanted to raise its expectations, after winning two of its first three games.

Oberwart, last season’s runners-up, said it had missed shots that did not fit its game plan. Veteran Renato Poljak said Eisenstadt deserved the win. Coach Horst Leitner also criticised his team’s late decisions and pointed to the free-throw count: Oberwart had 12 attempts to Eisenstadt’s 38.
