Salzburg museum night draws 21,400 visitors
About 21,400 people visited museums and cultural venues in Salzburg during the 26th ORF Long Night of Museums on Saturday, ORF reported. A total of 42 museums, galleries and other cultural venues opened from 6 p.m. until midnight.
Fifteen participating museums were outside the city of Salzburg. New venues included Hellbrunn Palace, the Peat, Glass and Brick Museum in Bürmoos, the Silent Night Museum in Oberndorf and the Anton Thuswaldner Artists’ House Museum in Kaprun.
Visitors could join a torchlight walk through the Teufelsgraben and learn about the red stone at the Marble Museum in Adnet. In Salzburg city, Max-Reinhard-Platz served as a meeting point for museum visits, while a bus connected the old town with Hellbrunn Palace and the Powder Mill.
Across Austria, the event attracted about 300,000 visitors. ORF Director General Ingrid Thurnher said the annual event had showcased the variety of the country’s museums and the value of experiencing culture together.
