Hundreds of dachshunds join Salzburg’s first parade

Several hundred dachshunds and their owners took part in Salzburg’s first dachshund parade on Saturday, far exceeding the organisers’ expectations, ORF reported. The dogs walked from Unipark in Nonntal to Hellbrunn Palace.

Hans Hörl of the Salzburg Dachshund Meetup said the organisers had expected about 30 dogs. Participants came from across the region and from places including Upper Austria, Vienna and Munich.

Organiser Natascha Niebauer said the idea had been discussed since she founded the meetup three and a half years ago. She said dachshund parades had been held for years in Paris, New York and London, comparing the dogs’ appeal to that of classic cars.

The walk took place in sunshine and late-summer temperatures. Many spectators gathered along the route to watch.
