Thirty-nine museums and galleries across Burgenland will open from 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday for the 26th ORF Long Night of Museums, ORF reports. The event offers a programme for visitors of all ages.
The starting point is the “Museum Meeting Point” beside the Burgenland State Gallery in Eisenstadt, where the event opens at 6 p.m. Shuttle bus line 1 will also depart from there. Eleven museums and galleries in Eisenstadt and 28 regional museums are taking part.
At the Eisenstadt City Villa, visitors can explore the city’s history, from its beginnings through war and occupation to reconstruction. Adults can use audio guides and hear hits from the 1950s and 1960s, with the evening ending in the garden. Children can take part in a drawing workshop.
The Burgenland State Gallery is presenting a major exhibition of landscape painter Harro Pirch to mark the 100th anniversary of the state museum.
The Liszt Museum in Raiding, the composer’s birthplace, explores Franz Liszt’s life and work across three exhibition spaces. Students will also give performances.
Five venues are taking part for the first time: Galerie moq ART NOW in Neusiedl am See, the Wander Bertoni open-air museum and Egg Museum in Winden am See, Galerie DEZENTRALE in Strem, and the Film & Retro Museum in Minihof Liebau.
Seventeen museums are offering activities designed for children. At Forchtenstein Castle, young visitors can dress up in costumes and create drawings inspired by the castle and its coat of arms. At HOCHECK_2 in Ollersdorf, children and teenagers can make natural paints for wall decorations.
In Eisenstadt, Leinnerhaus will take children on a journey through former museum exhibits to mark the museum’s centenary. The Köck Collection in Stadtschlaining is hosting a quiz trail about bladed weapons, dolls and toys.
The Winegrowing and Flag-Waving Museum in Neckenmarkt will offer tours on the 400-year history of flag-waving, as well as a quiz trail with surprises for children.
Children’s activities are marked in the event booklets. A children’s pass lets visitors collect a stamp for each museum visit and activity; those who visit at least three museums can receive a surprise gift. More information is available on the event website.
