Salzburg’s Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) is calling for better coordination and clearer information about construction works, including more than 1,000 small projects carried out in the city each year, ORF reports.

Sebastian Lankes, the SPÖ chair of the city’s construction committee, wants the committee to receive updates every three months. He said several road repairs often take place in different parts of the city, and that residents and businesses should be informed early so they can respond to planned works.

Deputy Mayor Kay-Michael Dankl of the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) said the city already informs residents and businesses about projects it commissions through letters, leaflets and notices posted nearby. He said he would also consider informing politicians directly.

The city website currently lists only larger projects that cause significant traffic disruption. Officials are considering adding medium-sized works, but Dankl said unexpected utility work could not always be avoided.

Lankes also wants the city to coordinate with other organisations and private construction companies at least every three months. Dankl said annual coordination was sufficient, adding that weekly emails keep partners updated. He said problems can arise when private property owners seek to make changes, such as adding a district heating connection, after road repairs are complete. The city cannot prohibit such works, he said.
