The management of the Villach tourism association appears to have been targeted in a phishing attack, with nearly 600 emails sent from its official address, ORF reported.

The emails had the subject line “Invoice and payment request” and included a link to a PDF file. Links of this kind are often used to install viruses or Trojan software on recipients’ devices.

The association’s IT company took the email address offline and set up a new one within 15 minutes. A warning was also sent telling recipients not to respond to the spam message.
