Unemployment in Vienna continued to fall in September, contrary to the national trend. The number of registered jobseekers and people in training both declined for the first time in seven years, ORF reported, citing Vienna’s Public Employment Service (AMS).
The combined number of people in the two groups was down 1.9% from September 2025. There were 123,444 registered jobseekers, a fall of 1.1%, and 32,524 people in AMS training, down 4.6%.
AMS Vienna head Winfried Göschl attributed the figures to easing pressure on the labour market, lower migration than in recent months and a positive trend in companies setting up in Vienna. He said there was no reason for pessimism and that the situation in Vienna was better than the mood suggested.
Unemployment among people over 50 rose 2.7%. AMS Vienna said this reflected the overall growth of that age group in the workforce. The number of unemployed people and training participants under 25 fell 5.4%.
By sector, unemployment rose 3.3% in retail and 2.9% in goods production. It fell 6.8% in construction and 2.7% in hotels and restaurants.
