Unemployment in Carinthia, including people taking part in training, rose 1.2% in September compared with the same month last year, ORF reported. The number of unemployed people not in training increased by 3.1%, while training participation fell by 7%.
Peter Wedenig, managing director of the AMS public employment service in Carinthia, said the September increase continued a trend in the state. The number of unemployed people including training participants rose by 224 to a year-on-year increase of 1.2%. However, across the first three quarters of 2026, the figure was down 0.6% in Carinthia. Across Austria, it was up 1.5% over that period.
Unemployment among women rose 5% in September, compared with a 1.5% increase among men. Wedenig attributed the rise among women in part to falling demand for office workers.
Unemployment increased 5.2% among people over 50. Among those under 25, 1,678 people were unemployed, up 4.7%. Wedenig said targeted AMS measures had helped stabilise the figure for people under 19.
The number of available apprenticeship positions fell 3%, while the number of people seeking apprenticeships rose 7%.
Unemployment fell in the districts of Hermagor, by 8.9%, and St. Veit, by 4.1%. It rose in the other districts, with the largest increases in Wolfsberg, up 5.6%, and Feldkirchen, up 5.3%.
