A9, fatal crash, traffic

One lane of the A9 towards Munich has reopened near Pfaffenhofen after a man was killed in a crash, BR reported. The motorway had been closed for hours.

Police said an initial investigation suggested a driver had fallen asleep and crashed first into a parked lorry and then into the crash barrier. After getting out of his car to retrieve something from the boot, the man was struck by a van that drove head-on into the unsecured crash scene. He was trapped between the vehicles and died at the scene.

The vehicles involved were seized by the Ingolstadt public prosecutor’s office, and an expert was called in. At about 8.15am, police reopened the right-hand lane. Traffic can pass the crash site using that lane and the hard shoulder, while clearance work continues.
