Mariazeller Advent will continue after organiser’s insolvency

The Mariazeller Advent will go ahead this year despite the insolvency of its organiser, with a new structure planned from 2027, ORF reported on Wednesday.
The event will run from 19 November to 20 December 2026, across five weekends. The programme includes the traditional Christmas market in front of the basilica, concerts and the annual light display on the Bürgeralpe. The Vienna Boys’ Choir will perform in the basilica at the opening.
From 2027, the city marketing company will organise the event together with Mariazell municipality and Mariazeller Land GmbH. Andreas Schweiger said the new structure would bring together experience from previous years, feedback from visitors and exhibitors, and new ideas.
Schweiger’s Stadtmarketing GmbH, which organises the event, filed for insolvency in July and said it was seeking to restructure. It had previously said the 2026 event would take place as planned.
