ATM explosion near Thayngen station seriously injures suspect

A cash machine was blown up near Thayngen railway station shortly before 4am on Wednesday, seriously injuring a man suspected of involvement, SRF reported.

Police believe the perpetrators were three people who fled towards Germany in a black car. About 20 minutes after the explosion, a seriously injured Dutch man was taken to the emergency department of Schaffhausen hospitals. Investigators suspect he was one of the perpetrators; he suffered injuries to his hand and thigh. Police are searching for the two other suspected accomplices.

Emergency crews cordoned off the area around the station after finding unexploded explosives. The operation involved Schaffhausen police and firefighters, as well as the Federal Office of Police and the Zurich Forensic Science Institute. The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has taken over the investigation.
