Sunny weather sets up warm Oktoberfest finish, but drought persists

Bavaria is forecast to stay warm and mostly sunny through the final days of Munich’s Oktoberfest, with only limited rain expected later in the week. But the rainfall will not be enough to ease the ongoing drought, BR reports.

A high-pressure system will bring sunshine to much of Bavaria on Tuesday and Wednesday after local morning fog clears. Temperatures are expected to reach 20 to 26 degrees Celsius, with up to 29 degrees possible in the Untermain region on Tuesday. Highs will be around seven to eight degrees above the 1991–2020 average.

The high-pressure influence will weaken on Thursday. While eastern and southeastern Bavaria should remain sunny and dry for much of the day, clouds will spread across the west, bringing a chance of rain by evening from Lower Franconia through western Middle Franconia and Swabia to the Allgäu. Highs will range from 20 degrees near the Rhön to 26 in parts of the Chiemgau.

Some rain, locally accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected overnight into Friday. The rain should ease by midday, with sunshine returning later. Friday highs will range from 17 to 23 degrees. Over the weekend, Bavaria is forecast to see a mix of sunshine and clouds, with showers rare and temperatures around 20 degrees.

In Munich, the Oktoberfest weather should be mostly sunny and largely dry apart from Friday, when clouds and some morning rain are possible. The expected rain from Thursday evening to Friday midday will do little to address the drought: no widespread, sustained rainfall is forecast, and low water levels in Bavarian rivers and lakes are set to persist.
