Poll puts Salzburg ÖVP narrowly ahead of FPÖ

A poll commissioned by Salzburg’s ÖVP puts the party at 29 percent, narrowly ahead of the FPÖ at 28 percent, ORF reported. The other parties are close to their results in the previous state election.

The survey by Vienna-based institute Demox Research questioned 800 people. In the hypothetical direct election of the state governor, Governor Karoline Edtstadler of the ÖVP received 27 percent, ahead of Deputy Governor Marlene Svazek of the FPÖ on 23 percent. SPÖ state party leader Peter Eder followed with 19 percent, while KPÖ member of the state parliament Kay-Michael Dankl received 11 percent.

The poll’s margin of error is 3.5 percentage points. Its estimated state election results are ÖVP 28 to 29 percent, FPÖ 27 to 28 percent, SPÖ 16 to 17 percent, KPÖ 12 percent, Greens 9 to 10 percent, NEOS 4 to 5 percent and other parties 2 percent.

52 percent satisfied with state government

Fifty-two percent of respondents said they were very or fairly satisfied with the Salzburg state government. That represents a six percentage point increase since the 2023 state election.

Among those who were satisfied, 42 percent cited Edtstadler and the ÖVP as the main reason, while 31 percent named Svazek and the FPÖ. For 20 percent, both coalition partners were the main reason for their satisfaction.

Forty-one percent of respondents said they were not satisfied or were not very satisfied. The remaining seven percent gave no answer.

Affordable housing was identified as the most important issue for Salzburg’s population, followed by rising prices, transport, migration and healthcare.
