Oktoberfest offers families discounts and child friendly services

Families can find reduced prices on rides, food and children’s menus at the Oktoberfest on Tuesdays, BR24 reports. The event’s Family Day is intended to make a visit more affordable, while dedicated facilities support parents with young children.

When is Family Day

Family Day takes place every Tuesday. In 2026, the dates are September 22 and September 29, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

What discounts are available

Many rides, showmen’s attractions and food stands offer special prices for children and families on Family Day. The large beer tents also serve children’s dishes and menus at reduced prices.

Some rides offer discounted children’s tickets throughout the Oktoberfest, in addition to bonus cards and discounts for frequent riders. Children pay one euro for the Teufelsrad, for example.

The Oidn Wiesn section is also cheaper in some cases. Tickets for attractions such as the chair swing and chain flyer cost 1.50 euros, including on days other than Family Day.

When children can enter the beer tents

Children may enter the beer tents, but only until 8 p.m. This rule applies even when they are accompanied by their parents or other adults.

Children under six may not remain in any of the catering establishments on the festival grounds in the evening. Children and young people under 16 may stay on the festival grounds after 8 p.m. only when accompanied by at least one parent. They may remain until the end of the Oktoberfest with their parents, but not inside the beer tents.

Young people aged 16 and over may stay on the festival grounds until the end without an adult. They may also remain in the tents, the wine tent and Käfer until midnight.

Strollers and changing facilities

Strollers are permitted on the festival grounds until 6 p.m., except on Saturdays and on the public holiday October 3. Changing bags may hold no more than three litres, a restriction checked at the entrances.

Stroller parking is available at Familienplatzl on Street 3 East, at the puppet theatre on the Oidn Wiesn, at Entrance 2 to the Oidn Wiesn and at numerous rides and Oktoberfest tents. Paid stroller parking is also available outside the festival grounds at luggage storage stations near the entrances. It costs five euros.

A changing and breastfeeding room is available until 7 p.m. at the Theresienwiese service centre at the festival management entrance, behind the Schottenhamel tent. Changing tables are also provided at Familienplatzl, in tents and at numerous rides. Children’s toilets are available at several children’s carousels, at Familienplatzl and in some beer tents.

Quieter areas for families

Familienplatzl is located in the eastern part of the Theresienwiese throughout the Oktoberfest. The area is in a side street and is generally quieter. Children can ride the BabyFlug carousel and take part in tin can throwing there.

Visitors may warm food they have brought with them in a microwave in the beer garden. Familienplatzl also has a changing table and stroller parking. The entire area has a level wooden floor without steps.

The Oidn Wiesn is another option for families seeking a calmer atmosphere.

What to do if a child gets lost

Staff at the entrances to the Oktoberfest grounds provide child finder wristbands. Parents can write their telephone number on the free bands so they can be contacted quickly if their child goes missing. The wristbands are also popular with children as souvenirs.
