Firefighters contain blaze at remote farmhouse in Wagrain

Firefighters have brought a blaze at a remote farmhouse in Wagrain, in Salzburg’s Pongau region, under control, ORF reported. Residents and animals were not in danger, and no one was injured.

The fire was confined to the interior of one floor. The farmhouse owner was at the scene and assisting emergency crews. The incident was declared an alert level four operation.

Firefighters from Wagrain, Kleinarl, Flachau, Altenmarkt, Bischofshofen and St. Johann were tackling the fire inside the building.

Because the mountain location has no sufficient water supply, tanker trucks are transporting firefighting water from the valley in a shuttle operation.

Fire service spokesman Martin Klässner told ORF that the operation was expected to continue for several more hours, mainly because of the difficult water supply. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
